Holly Mason Badra (she/her/hers) is the Associate Director of Women and Gender Studies. In this role, she supports both faculty and students, as well as works in collaboration with other university partners. She is the Minor Advisor for the Women and Gender Studies Minor and the LGBTQ Studies Minor. She also teaches WMST 100: Global Representations of Women. 

Prior to joining the WGST team, Holly worked in the GMU English Department as the Graduate Admissions Coordinator and Fiscal Manager. She received her MFA in Creative Writing (Poetry) from GMU in 2017. While pursuing her MFA, she served as a Writing Consultant in the Writing Center and Coordinator of the Weekly Graduate Write-Ins. She received her Graduate Certificate in Higher Education Administration in 2021. Her teaching experience includes elementary, middle, high school, and college Composition, Humanities, Literature, and Creative Writing classes. She is originally from North Carolina, where she received her BA in English (with a Minor in Dance) from UNC-Greensboro. 

Holly serves as the staff advisor for the GMU Kurdish Student Organization. She is a member of President Washington's Anti-Racism & Inclusive Excellence Task Force. And is a part of a new CHSS working group dedicated to Staff Professional Development and the inaugural CHSS Inclusive Excellence (IE) advisory council. She also served as the Executive Committee Secretary of the GMU LGBTQ+ Faculty/Staff Alliance, where she started the Queer Parents/Caregivers Social.  

Holly is the recipient of the 2022 Rose Pascarell and Ric Chollar Professional Service Award, which honors a staff person who collaborates to serve, support, and advance efforts for the LGBTQ+ community at Mason. She was honored with a CHSS Distinguished Alumni Award in Spring 2022. 

Her poetry, reviews, interviews, presentations, and other publications are available on her website. Additionally, she has work published in Ranger Rick: A National Wildlife Federation nature magazine for children.
