The Sojourner Truth Lecture is a collaborative annual event jointly sponsored by Women and Gender Studies and the African and African American Studies programs at George Mason University. The 2024 Sojourner Truth Lecture speaker and award recipient was Rokhaya Diallo, an award-winning French  journalist, writer, and filmmaker.

On October 11, the Women and Gender Studies Department partnered with Fall for the Book to sponsor author Gabe Montesanti. Montesanti’s memoir Brace for Impact discusses Montesanti’s discovery of roller derby and recovery from past trauma of growing up queer in the conservative Midwest.

Ric Chollar is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and an adjunct professor of Women & Gender Studies, Integrative Studies, and Social Work. He also previously served as the Associate Director the LGBTQ+ Resources Center. During Pride Month, Chollar reflects on its history and his years of LGBTQ+ advocacy on campus.

When answering a question about how to handle the pressure of solving societal issues that will not be resolved in an activist’s lifetime, Dr. Ntaiya answered with a quote that sums up her impact on the world, “I have started something that will not stop.”
