REVE(A)LING: FEMINIST ART
An Annual Juried Exhibition
Feminist art is art with a message, not simply art by women. It is art that talks about crucial issues where the subject matter can be as important as the medium. Because gender affects every aspect of human experience, feminist art deals with but is not limited to issues such as the human body, race, class, sexuality, capitalism, globalization, politics, power and domination, and beauty.
Undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff whose artistic vision is feminist in nature are invited to submit artworks for a juried exhibition to be held in Gallery 123 in the George W. Johnson Center at George Mason University from March 2-19, 2010. The exhibition is a part of Women’s History Month sponsored by Women and Gender Studies.
The exhibition will be juried by Sue Wrbican, Assistant Professor of Art and Visual Technology at George Mason University; Suzanne Scott, Associate Professor New Century College and Director of Women and Gender Studies at George Mason University; and Dr. Vicki Kirsch, Associate Director of Women and Gender Studies.
Artwork Specifications:
Works by current students in all media will be considered. Because of space limitations, wall works should not exceed 6’x6’ and 3D works should not require more than 3’x3’ of floor space. Videos and animation should be fewer than 10 minutes. All pieces must be properly protected (mats, frames, and bases).
