Meet Jessica Smith, Mason Alumna and Business Counselor at Women's Business Center of NOVA

Women and Gender Studies is pleased to introduce Mason alumna Jessica Smith. Jessica graduated from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences in 2014, receiving her Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Communication, magna cum laude. As a student leader, Jessica’s passion for cultivating a strong community of like-minded women emerged. She credits the student organizations Chase Dreams Not Boys and the Omicron Iota chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. for giving her the platform to bring educational and empowering female-led programs to George Mason’s campus. Some of those programs included a domestic violence awareness event in partnership with WAVES and career-planning workshop in partnership with University Career Services and the Black Alumni Chapter.

She currently serves as a business counselor at the Women’s Business Center of Northern Virginia, which is a program of the Community Business Partnership (CBP). CBP is one of several Mason Enterprise Centers in Northern Virginia, which help small businesses start and grow, by providing one-on-one counseling, technical assistance training, access to capital and networking opportunities. In this role, Jessica counsels, trains and equips women and minorities to become economically empowered through entrepreneurship. Coming from a family of entrepreneurs, Jessica saw the flexibility that her mother had in being able to support her at all school functions, sports and other extracurricular activities. She has enjoyed walking alongside dozens of aspiring entrepreneurs who also want to create a legacy of financial freedom for their families.
