Laverne Cox at Mason!

Laverne Cox at Mason!
Wednesday, March 5, 2014, students packed the Hub ballroom to hear Orange Is the New Black star Laverne Cox deliver her speech, "Ain't I A Woman?"
Cox, a writer and transgender activist, spoke of her transition to womanhood, the anti-trans harassment she continues to experience in the public arena, and called for a public display of love, as a means of justice, for trans women of color, whose national unemployment rate is four times greater than other citizens.
After her lecture, many students took to Twitter to share their thanks to Laverne for sharing her story and celebrate how she "slayed" them while in line to get hugs and signed poster's from Cox.
For more of Laverne Cox, check out the second season of Orange is The New Black, to air June 6 of this year. Additionally, consider making a donation to the Free Cece documentary, about African-American trans woman Cece McDonald who was incarcerated in a men's prison for defending herself against a transphobic attack, which Cox is a co-producer of.
