Women and Gender Studies' Program Coordinator Settles In
Tashia Harris - Women and Gender Studies Program Coordinator

If you have come into our office recently, you have probably seen the “Warning: Program Coordinator in Training” signs posted around the center.  No warning is actually needed for our new Program Coordinator, Latashia Harris, who has moved seamlessly into the office as if she has been here for years. Tashia joined us in late October after graduating with a Master’s in Urban Affairs from Norfolk State.  Her master’s thesis research looked at sexual minority career decisions, adding another dimension of expertise to a department with a growing interest in intersectionalities and LGBTQ focused scholarship.  When asked about what she enjoyed most about working in the Women and Gender Studies Center thus far she said, “I really like that I can be myself at work. I didn’t think that was going to be possible anywhere, but I’m so appreciative that it truly is possible here in this safe space. It’s a great environment and I’m thankful that I get to work with genuinely good people.”  She hopes to continue her graduate education here while in this position and is currently investigating the many amazing certificate and doctoral programs offered at Mason. We are delighted to welcome her to our staff.
