The Well Inducts Three Women and Gender Studies Scholars

On November 29 at 6pm “The Well” at the Mason Inn Conference Center and Hotel inducted Women and Gender Studies faculty members, Dr. Paula Ruth Gilbert and Dr. Angela Hattery, along with a member of our affiliated faculty, Dr. Susan Tichy.

Women and Gender Studies has long held a place in the George Mason University community committed to both social justice and impassioned scholarship. We are proud that the impassioned scholarship of several of our affiliated faculty has been showcased in “The Well” library at the Mason Inn. Paula, Angie, and Susan join the ranks of three other affiliated faculty already inducted as Well Authors -- Dr. Amy Best, Dr. Karen Rosenblum, and Dr. Toni Travis. Women and Gender Studies faculty and affiliates make up six of the eleven inductees to date. We are also proud of the fact that Paula and Angie had not one but three of their books inducted.

“An event like this in an informal and relaxed environment that celebrates faculty scholarship and creative activities contribute to building an intellectual community here at George Mason,” remarked Angie Hattery as she reflected on the event.

This celebration included light reception fare as each faculty member read from their work and answered two questions, what is something the audience doesn’t know about them and what is the greatest thing about Mason? During the ceremony their books were put on permanent display in the Well Library alongside other “best published works” by faculty of George Mason University. Dr. Amy Best, one of the first inductees, served as the master of ceremony for the event.  Stephen Goodwin, a creative writing professor in the English department, joined Paula, Angie, and Susan as the fourth inductee of the evening.
