Program Celebrates Alumni Weekend With Career Panel And Reception
Alumna Khulan Nyamsuren and current student Mabinty Quarshie.

Women and gender studies hosted its first-ever Alumni Weekend reception Thursday, September 29, in the Women and Gender Studies Center.  Past and present students of the program were invited to attend, as well as faculty and staff associated with the program.  The reception was a chance for members of the community to connect and catch-up.

Alumni attendees were able to see the changes made to teh center since graduation and meet the newest generation of gender scholars.  The reception also included a video slideshow of archived photos and flyers made by program interns Courtney Rudd and Mabinty Quarshie.  The interns videotaped attendees to document their reflections of the program and how it affected their personal and professional lives.

The event followed a career workshop led by alumna Ana Kay Yaghoubian.  Ana Kay shared her knowledge of finding a career path with a women and gender studies minor with current undergraduate students.  Ana shared information about organizations, careers, and positions available out there to students.  Ana Kay Yaghoubian is currently a program associate for the National Girls Collaborative Project, a program under the American Association of University Women.

This was the first time that Women and Gender Studies "live tweeted" an event using the hashtag #gmu.  The goal of this communication was to share some of the tips given at the career panel event and to raise more awareness about the program's participation in Alumni Weekend.
