Lavender and Women and Gender Studies Graduation took place on Thursday, April 28th. A total of 20 graduates participated. This graduation is a collaboration between Women and Gender Studies and the LGBTQ+ Resources Center to recognize LGBTQ+ students, their allies, and Women and Gender Studies program graduates and people who identified with Women and Gender Studies programs throughout their time at Mason. Two students were recognized at the event with the Feminist Leadership Award, which recognizes graduating seniors who demonstrates scholarly excellence and activist leadership in the Women and Gender Studies Program. The two recipients were Jo Alkibsy and Jackson Kair. You can learn more about the awards here. There was also a new award introduced, recognizing the contributions of faculty whose teaching and/or scholarship centers the experiences of LGBTQ+ people and communities, named in honor our our first LGBTQ+ minor coordinator, Dr. David Powers Corwin. You can read more about that award, and the legacy David has here at WGST here. The Rose Pascarell and Ric Chollar Professional Service Award, which honors professional service for the advancement of historically marginalized groups at Mason, was awarded to Holly Mason Badra.
