Bennett Shoop, WGST Major Student's Paper Gets Accepted to the National Conference on Undergraduate Research

Women and Gender Studies major student, Bennett Shoop's paper entitled, “There’s Nothing ‘Faux’ About Femme Queens: Female Drag Queens and Misogyny” has been accepted for the National Conference on Undergraduate Research. The paper focuses on how the exclusionary treatment of femme queens is linked to systemic misogyny in the larger LGBTQ+ community. Through an analysis of the works of Judith Butler and José Esteban Muñoz, Bennett will illustrate how arguments mobilized by those who attempt to exclude women from being drag queens are not rooted in the reality of what drag is, but are misogynistic attempts to preserve gay space as male space and devalue the labor of women.

The National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) is a national conference open to all undergraduates which was conceived and implemented at the University of North Carolina-Asheville in 1987. The conference is dedicated to promoting undergraduate research, scholarship, and creative activity in all fields of study. This year, the conference will be held on Wednesday, April 10 – Saturday, April 13, 2019 at Kennesaw State University.

Congratulations Bennett on this exciting opportunity!
