Mason Author Series Featuring WGST Dr. Angie Hattery and Sociologist Dr. Earl Smith's Latest Book: Policing Black Bodies

On October 4, 2018 at 3:00PM, Dr. Angela J. Hattery, Professor and Director, Women and Gender Studies, and Dr. Earl Smith, Adjunct Faculty, Sociology will discuss their book, Policing Black Bodies: How Black Lives are Surveilled and How to Work for Change as part of the Mason Author Series at the Fenwick Library.

In Policing Black Bodies the authors make a compelling case that the policing of Black bodies goes far beyond individual stories and isolated incidents of brutality. They connect the regulation of African American people in many settings, including the public education system and the criminal justice system, into a powerful narrative about the myriad ways Black bodies are policed.

The University Libraries’ Mason Author Series features Mason faculty and alumni authors throughout the year, and is generously sponsored by the University Bookstore. For upcoming events, visit http://library.gmu.edu/masonauthorseries.
