WGST’s Librarian, Jen Stevens Gets Admitted to PhD Program

Jen Stevens is a WGST subject librarian at Mason, where she has been for the past 12 years. Throughout her time here she has taken classes, balancing both work and student roles. Jen was recently admitted into the Writing and Rhetoric PhD program at Mason.

What is your role at Mason?

I am the Team Lead for Arts & Humanities subject librarians at Mason Libraries. I also serve as the subject librarian for the Women & Gender Studies program and the English department.

How many years have you been at Mason?

About 12 years

What has been your relationship with Women and Gender Studies?

I’ve been the subject librarian for the Women and Gender Studies program since I came to Mason, and became an affiliate faculty member in my first year. What that means is that I work with students and faculty to help them with using Libraries resources. I also teach library instruction sessions and do regular office hours at the Women and Gender Center.  .

What are some challenges that you have overcome?

Balancing working full time while taking classes is probably my biggest challenge. At the same time, I’m grateful to have the Libraries’ support.

What graduate program did you get accepted in? What are your hopes and goals for this program?

I was accepted into the PhD program in Writing and Rhetoric. I plan to do research in science/technology and/or digital rhetoric. I also hope to learn more about research methods and apply them to my own research.

Any additional information you would like to share?

I look forward to the challenge of starting PhD graduate work

Women and Gender Studies would like to congratulate Jen on her new adventure as a graduate student of the Writing and Rhetoric PhD program! We are extremely excited for you!
