Book Talk: Race and Policing in the United States

Devon Johnson (Criminology, Law and Society), Angela Hattery (Women and Gender Studies) and Earl Smith (Sociology) will be holding a book talk on February 13 to discuss their recent books and issues of race, policing, and justice in the U.S. 

The book talk will be held Tuesday, February 13, 2018 from 3:00-4:00 PM in the MIX at Fenwick Library (note new location!). Johnson will discuss topics from her edited volume Deadly Injustice: Trayvon Martin, Race and the Criminal Justice System. Hattery and Smith will explore topics from their new book Policing Black Bodies: How Black Lives are Surveilled and How to Work for Change.

This book talk is one of a series of events at Mason aligned with the Sojourner Truth lecture, Black History Month (February), and Women's History Month (March).  The 2018 Sojourner Truth lecture on February 19th will feature Sybrina Fulton (mother of Trayvon Martin), who will also speak on themes of racial justice.
