George Mason University's Women and Gender Studies and African and African American Studies are proud to present the 2018 Sojourner Truth Lecture featuring Sybrina Fulton, mother of Trayvon Martin, on Monday, February 19 at 1:30 p.m. in the HUB Ballroom, Fairfax, VA. The event, held during Black History Month, draws attention to racial justice. Ms. Fulton will discuss key themes from her book Rest in Power: The Enduring Life of Trayvon Martin and will participate in a book-sale/signing later that afternoon.

On Thursday, January 18, 2018, at 7 p.m., Earl Smith (Wake Forest University) and Angela Hattery (Women and Gender Studies) will speak about their new book: Policing Black Bodies: How Black Lives are Surveilled and How to Work for Change at Politics and Prose (the Wharf).
On Tuesday, February 13, 2018, from 3-4 p.m., in The MIX-Fenwick Library, Devon Johnson (Mason's Department of Criminology, Law and Society), Earl Smith (Wake Forest University, Sociology) and Angela Hattery (Mason's Women and Gender Studies Program) will speak about their new books: Policing Black Bodies: How Black Lives are Surveilled and How to Work for Change (Hattery and Smith) and Deadly Injustice: Trayvon Martin, Race and the Criminal Justice System (Johnson)
