Past Event

Thursday, April 19, 2012 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM EDT
Johnson Center, 240 K

Join Women and Gender Studies to celebrate the recent publication of The Social Dynamics of Family Violence.  The book is co-authored by:

  • Angela Hattery, Associate Director of Women and Gender Studies, George Mason University
  • Earl Smith, Professor of Sociology and Director of American Ethnic Studies, Wakeforest University
This compelling new text explores family violence throughout the life course, with special attention to the social character and institutional causes of family violence.  From child abuse and neglect to intimate partner violence and elder abuse, Hattery and Smith ask students to consider how social inequity, especially gender inequality, contributes to tensions and explosive tendencies in family settings.
Enjoy light refreshments and conversations with the authors of this text.  Books will be available for sale at the event.  Faculty members receive a 10% discount with valid ID.
