Section Information for Fall 2016
This course will focus on fiction writers of the late twentieth century who are all still writing today. The third wave of feminism brought issues of race, gender identity, and sexuality to mainstream attention through activism and research conducted in the academy; however, many, especially women of color, fiction writers are left out of conversations about contemporary feminist debates. In this course, we will discuss LGBTQ, gender, race, and sexuality, through fiction writers that focus on social issues that resonate with contemporary audiences. The course will mostly focus on the intersections of race and gender in a US context; however, we will read some transnational writers as well.
