  <abstract>&lt;p&gt;The 36-hour master of arts in interdisciplinary studies (MAIS) with a concentration in women and gender studies promotes advanced scholarship that transcends traditional boundaries. Students combine required coursework in women and gender studies with courses in a discipline of interest such as history, literature, sociology, anthropology, health, education, public policy, philosophy, social work, conflict analysis and resolution, environmental science, or the arts.The program accomodates both full time and part time students.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;h5&gt;Admission&lt;/h5&gt;
&lt;p&gt;In addition to the &lt;a href="http://admissions.gmu.edu/grad/admissions_process/general_requirements/"&gt;application requirements for graduate study&lt;/a&gt; at George Mason, applicants to this concentration should submit: 3 letters of recommendation, a goals statement, 1000 word writing sample, and a resum&amp;eacute;.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The application deadline for fall admission is March 1. The application deadline for Spring admission is October 15.&lt;/p&gt;</abstract>

  <requirements>&lt;p&gt;Students pursuing this concentration must complete a total of 36 credits consisting of at least 15 credits in women and gender studies and 12-18 credits in the chosen discipline. The degree culminates in a project or thesis.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;ul&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Two core courses (6 credits): WMST 630, 640&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;12 credits in a discipline selected in consultation with an advisor, including 3 credits in a women and gender studies course in the discipline&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;9 to 12 credits of elective courses, including at least 6 credits in women and gender studies courses that are not part of the disciplinary focus&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;One course (3 credits) of research methods, selected in consultation with an advisor&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;1 credit of proposal:&amp;nbsp; MAIS 797&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;2 credits of project: MAIS 798 or 5 credits of thesis: MAIS 799&lt;/li&gt;
