The 2015 Women and Gender Studies Annual Conference was a great success! This year, Women and Gender Studies garnered the largest turnout with over 120 attendees in total. Over 50 presenters came from six different schools, including George Mason University, Virginia Commonwealth University, Smith College, George Washington University, Loyola University Maryland, and American University. On-campus and off-campus organizations were invited to participate in the resource fair in order to engage with Mason students and showcase their work surrounding Women and Gender Studies. Keynote speaker Giovanna Chesler also made an appearance for the film screening and discussion of “Out in the Night.” Chesler co-produced the documentary, which tells the story of how four women were convicted of assaulting a man who attacked them.

The theme of this year’s conference was “The Politics of Gender and Justice: The Intersection of Identity and Discipline.” Its aim was to include a wide range of interdisciplinary topics that relates to intersectionality. Some examples of presentations that incorporated intersectionality include “Activist Work to Support Trans* Women of Color” and “Women, Democracy and Islam.” Thank you to all who presented and attended!
